About www.ViewfromthePier.com Travel Photos
There was a time when I felt I had “been there and done that,” world-weary and with the weight of the world on my shoulders. Then, a series of serendipitous events – which certainly didn’t seem so at the time! – provoked a degree of humility in me that allowed me to see the world a little differently.
Now, I am at my happiest when I can view my day and everything that parades through it as though through the eyes of a curious child. (Be assured, I have my days when I am more like a two-year old having a tantrum!)
My creative endeavors and www.ViewfromthePier.com are an outgrowth of those experiences and new attitude. And photography is one of those endeavors, and a passion for me. It allows me to change my perspective, see the beauty in the everyday, “focus” on the moment at hand.
It provides a sense of purpose to my other great love: travel to distant lands and cultures.
The photographs featured on www.viewfromthepier.com were taken in locales over the world, and include images from:
In addition to ViewfromthePier's image bank, each month the site features a gallery of images from my recent travels. These galleries offer the ability to view slideshows as well as individual images in large format. Archival prints can be purchased in several different sizes--if a particular image interests you, click on it and information on how to make a purchase can be seen.
Just as a particular sight can take my breath away, so, too, a perceptive turn-of-the-phrase can make me gasp with recognition. I marvel at how consistent human nature is over time, how the ancient philosophers’ and playwrights’ insights still speak truth about how we think, feel, and behave today.
Yet, over the eons, the very human desire to express, and to be heard, has led successive new generations to put their own twist on observations about the nature of man. And, so, the “aha” moments of wit and wisdom continue.
Wherever I am, I can sometimes wake up in a bad mood, so I rely on several books offering the ”meditation of the day” to encourage an open and optimistic frame of mind. The message presented each morning often is exactly the one I am in need of, many times with unerring accuracy. Wanting more of this, I began delving into books of quotations and collecting my favorites, based on what they elicited in me, the food they provided for my soul.
In reading the reflections of the sages of the ages, I realized I have had the same reasonings, reactions and revelations. I have come to see I have shared the same awakenings as medieval pilgrims and beat poets, and that I too have a voice, and am a part of the chorus. As we all do, and are. Perhaps you, too, have had this experience.
The very quality that makes an image or insight timeless is the chord it strikes in all of us. And, so in choosing to ”sing my part” by writing about my experiences, I have to really reflect on what the reverberations are, to resonate them outward with a clarity that rings true.
Each day, my love of images and words is reflected on www.ViewfromthePier.com 's home page, with a fresh image daily, captioned by an uplifting quotation. Over time, new and different takes on “the view from the pier” will be added to the site. If you have found an especially meaningful or interesting quotation, please do share it with me. I also welcome your comments and thoughts. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I’m never quite certain where the path is leading, but it’s always interesting and I invite you along. I look forward to sharing our travels and discoveries. Please visit often.
