Pomposa Abbey is a Benedictine monastery in the town of Codigoro near the Po Delta. It was one of the most important in northern Italy, famous for its Romanesque buildings and dates from 874. The abbey played an important role in the culture of Italy thanks to the work of its scribe monks. In the 11th century, Guido d'Arezzo invented the modern musical notation here.
